Finding a holiday home in Croatia with an EV charging point is harder than it sounds: many listings say "charging possible" and mean a socket in the garage. We have a dedicated wallbox – but only at one of our three houses, Villa Just be Alive in Kaštel Stari, between Split and Trogir. Here's what that means for your planning, and what we honestly can't promise.
Which villa has the wallbox?
| Just be Alive | Just be Light | Just be Happy | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wallbox (EV) | yes, at the house | no | no |
| Private parking spaces | 4 | 4 | 4 |
| Self check-in | PIN pad | PIN pad | Key box |
The wallbox is a permanent fixture at Villa Just be Alive and sits by the four private parking spaces right next to the house. We deliberately don't quote an exact charging output here – if you need it for your planning (for a particular vehicle or charging cable, for example), ask us before you book and we'll check and give you the specifics.
If you're staying at Villa Just be Light next door or at Villa Just be Happy, there's no charging point at the house. If you're travelling as a large group and taking Alive and Light together, it's best to talk to us about charging beforehand.
Why a wallbox at your holiday home makes such a difference
With an electric car, the drive isn't the problem – everyday life once you arrive is. A charging point at the house means:
- Charge overnight instead of waiting at public chargers during the day
- Set off on day trips with a full battery – Krka, Šibenik and Omiš are each around an hour away, according to our guide to day trips
- No hunting for a charger in high season, when parking in Split and Trogir is scarce anyway
- Electricity is included in the final price as standard – just like final cleaning, tourist tax, water, Wi-Fi and parking. We're happy to clarify any questions about charging on longer stays in advance.
Driving to Kaštel Stari by EV: what our sources tell us
The classic route runs through Austria and Slovenia into Croatia and then south on the A1 motorway. Rough driving times without long breaks or traffic jams, from our guide Getting to Kaštel Stari:
- from Vienna around 7 to 8 hours
- from Munich around 9 hours
- from Zurich around 10 to 11 hours
- from Frankfurt around 12 to 13 hours
With charging stops it takes correspondingly longer. We don't list chargers along the route – their locations and availability change too quickly. It's best to plan your stops with your car's charging app or sat nav.
Other costs on the way: motorway vignettes in Austria and Slovenia, and distance-based tolls in Croatia. For trips from autumn 2026 onwards, it's worth checking our travel guide, as Croatia is gradually changing its toll system.
If you'd like to break up the journey, you can also take the overnight ferry from Ancona to Split – a crossing of around ten to eleven hours, leaving in the evening and arriving in the morning.
Is driving even worth it?
According to our travel guide, driving is almost always cheaper than flying once there are four or more of you, you're staying longer, travelling with a dog or carrying lots of luggage. Families with toddlers in particular appreciate the boot space – though you don't need to bring a cot, high chair or baby monitor, as we provide those free of charge.
Once you're here, a car is useful for excursions – we'll be honest about that. You can walk to the beach and promenade (around 1 km, 10–15 minutes), restaurants and supermarkets, and you can get to Split by train. But for Krka, the islands or the hinterland, your own car is the most convenient option – and with the wallbox at the house, you start every morning fully charged.

Frequently asked questions
Do all three villas have a charging point?
No, only Villa Just be Alive has its own wallbox. Just be Light and Just be Happy have private parking but no charging point.
What is the wallbox's charging output?
We won't state that here without checking. Just send us your car model and we'll give you the exact details.
Does charging cost extra?
Electricity is included in the final price as standard. We're happy to clarify with you in advance whether anything special applies to charging on very long stays.
Can I arrive in an electric hire car?
In principle, yes – the car hire desks are right at Split Airport, around 10 minutes from the villa. Whether an electric vehicle is available is something to check directly with the rental company.
