For many families, a holiday home in Croatia over Easter or Whitsun (Pentecost) is the first seaside holiday of the year – and often the one where expectations differ most. Some dream of the first plunge into the water, others simply want to escape a grey spring. Both work here in Kaštel Stari, but for the spring holidays it's worth taking a close look at the calendar, the weather and the pool.
Easter and Whitsun are two different trips
Depending on the year, Easter falls between late March and late April, and Whitsun in May or June. School holidays also vary considerably depending on your country or region, and half-term doesn't always fall on the holiday weekend itself. So: check your specific dates in the calendar of the villa you're interested in, rather than relying on experience from a different year.
Easter is spring: nature is green, the days are getting longer, and you'll need a jacket in the evening. The sea is too cold for swimming.
Whitsun is early summer: it's usually already warm, all the restaurants are open, and for the brave, the sea is gradually becoming an option.
The pool: heated from the end of March
The large saltwater pool at all three villas is heated from the end of March at no extra charge, and the hot tub is heated all year round. The two can be controlled independently. For the Easter holidays, that means: even when the Adriatic is still chilly, you can swim at home. For children, that's usually the highlight anyway – a pool on the doorstep beats the beach.
An honest note: if Easter falls very early, it's at the very start of the heating season, or in the period when we mostly rent by the month (November to April). The calendar shows whether a shorter Easter stay is possible for your dates – or just ask us on WhatsApp.
What's good to do over the holidays
- Trogir and Split without the high-summer crowds: Trogir is around 10 minutes and Split around 25 minutes away by car.
- Hiking on Kozjak: pleasant in spring, barely feasible in high summer.
- Krka National Park and Šibenik: a good day trip in mild temperatures. All destinations, sorted by driving time, are in our Day Trips from Split & Trogir.
- Barbecues in the outdoor kitchen: every villa has an outdoor kitchen with barbecue and a dining table for ten.
- Beach and promenade: around 1 km, so 10–15 minutes on foot.
A car is useful for excursions; the car hire desks are right at Split Airport, around 10 minutes from the villas.
Family and grandparents under one roof
Holidays are often family get-togethers. Each of our villas sleeps up to 10 guests and has five rooms with en-suite bathrooms – grandparents, parents and children each have their own space. We provide a cot, high chair and baby monitor free of charge. Coming with several families? Just be Alive and Just be Light are next door to each other (together up to 20 guests), and with Just be Happy up to 30 are possible – more under Villa for Large Groups.
It pays to plan early
Holiday weeks are in demand because lots of families are off at the same time. In summer we usually rent from Saturday to Saturday – but shifting your stay by a day is often enough to find a suitable gap. You can cancel free of charge up to 60 days before arrival; you pay 50% on booking, and the balance is taken automatically 60 days before arrival.

Is the pool already heated at Easter?
The large pool is heated from the end of March at no extra charge, and the hot tub all year round. If Easter is very early, it's best to check the exact situation with us.
Can you swim in the sea at Whitsun?
Depending on the year and the weather, yes, if you're brave. What's reliably warm here is your own pool.
Can we stay for less than a week?
In the summer half of the year, usually Saturday to Saturday. From November to April we mostly rent by the month – shorter periods on request only.
Are children and dogs welcome?
Yes, both. Baby equipment is free, and we charge €79 per stay for a dog.
